“He's tough, targets buildings and explodes when destroyed, slowing nearby enemies. Made entirely out of ice... or is he?! Yes.”

The Ice Golem is a Rare card that is unlocked from the Frozen Peak (Arena 8). It spawns a slow, single-target, building-targeting, melee, ground troop with high hitpoints and very low damage. When defeated, the Ice Golem explodes, dealing damage, while additionally slowing down anything nearby for 2 seconds. An Ice Golem card costs 2 Elixir to deploy.

Strategy[]

  • The Ice Golem's death damage is enough to one-shot Skeletons and Bats. When combined with a Zap or Giant Snowball, he can fully defeat Goblins, Spear Goblins, Minions or Rascal Girls.
  • A simple strategy is to deploy the Ice Golem in front of a Hog Rider, Battle Ram or Ram Rider as the Crown Towers and any other troops or defensive buildings will target the Ice Golem, giving the other troop more time to deal damage, and opposing units will be slowed upon the Ice Golem's death.
    • Once the Ice Golem is eliminated, the Ice Golem's slowing effect of the supporting troops and buildings will give the Hog Rider 1-2 extra hits. This can also help manage a common counter to the Hog Rider, the Skeleton Army, which the Ice Golem will take care of due to his death damage taking out most if not all of the Skeletons.
    • The Ice Golem can be placed in front of leftover low health defenders to start a mini counter-push or to force a response from the opponent.
  • The Ice Golem can be placed at the bridge along with a unit behind him. This will allow the Ice Golem to tank for the unit, and then slow nearby troops upon death.
  • The Ice Golem can be used defensively as a slowing tank for any attacking troops and buildings. When the Ice Golem is played 2 tiles from the river but in the opposite lane, melee troops will chase the Ice Golem to the other lane giving the player and their Crown Towers more time to defeat the troops. This is called 'kiting'. He is especially effective against slow-moving troops like the P.E.K.K.A, as they will take a long time to catch up to the Ice Golem and be pulled into the other lane, all while being chipped down by the Crown Towers.
    • This tactic also works against dual-lane attacks. Placing the Ice Golem on the center can force the troops on one lane to unite with the troops in the other lane, making it easier for area attackers like the Mega Knight to counter them.
    • It can also work against some long-range troops. This can easily stop the Dart Goblin and Magic Archer for a positive Elixir, due to these troops' longer sight range.
  • To counter ranged troops like the Musketeer, placing the Ice Golem directly on top of the troop is more beneficial, as he slows down the troop after he dies, allowing the tower to finish them off.
  • A simple but powerful strategy is to place the Ice Golem followed by a Balloon. The Ice Golem acts as a cheap tank for the Balloon and distract poorly placed anti-air ranged units, as well as eliminate Bats with its death damage if defeated.
  • The Ice Golem can be paired with ground troops such as the Prince and Mini P.E.K.K.A to defeat swarms that were deployed to execute the troop. If the opponent uses Minions, the Ice Golem's Death Damage and a Zap can defeat the Minions.
  • He can be used with cheap, fast troops such as Goblins to deal high damage to a Crown Tower.
  • The Ice Golem is a good counter to the Clone as he can both distract the clones and one-shot them with his large area damage upon death.
  • The Ice Golem can be a decent counter against the Skeleton Barrel if the player does not want to use small spells or does not have one in hand. The Ice Golem should be played right as the barrel drops, so that the most Skeletons possible target the Ice Golem and trigger his death damage.
  • The Ice Golem should generally not be used to attack solo, as his damage is very low. He is much more effectively used to tank for other troops, especially glass cannons.
  • As he is the cheapest mini-tank, he can be an addition to cycle decks, which usually lack high hitpoint units.
  • Due to his low cost, he is disposable. While defending, his death explosion can slow down surrounding troops. During attacks, he can tank for a while and slow down surrounding troops. In addition, he can be absorb one strike from Lightning, due to his high hitpoints, and possibly saving another more valuable troop such as a Musketeer or Wizard.
  • The Ice Golem is not a replacement for a Golem in any deck, and their playstyles are very different. Ice Golem costs much less Elixir, has much fewer hitpoints, does less death damage, doesn't spawn Golemites upon death, and slows troops. Golem serves the role of being a huge tank for a large, tower-taking push, while the Ice Golem is a cheap, reactive mini-tank that is useful on both offense and defense.
  • The Ice Golem is a cheap absorb for spirit cards like the Fire Spirit. Place the Ice Golem further away from the intended target so that the Spirit card does not hit both the Ice Golem and its original target.
  • Note that the Ice Golem's slow effect from his death does not stack with the slow effects of the Giant Snowball and Ice Wizard. In addition, the movement speed decrease of the Ice Golem will be overwritten by the Earthquake and Ram Rider if used together, as their movement speed debuffs of them are more severe.

Trivia[]

  • The word "Golem" occurs once in the Bible in Psalm 139:16, which uses the word "golmi", that means "my light form", "raw" material, connoting the unfinished human being. A golem is an animated, anthropomorphic being in Jewish folklore, which is entirely created from inanimate matter, usually clay or mud. The most famous golem narrative involves Judah Loew ben Bezalel, the late 16th-century rabbi of Prague.
  • The Ice Golem is 1 of 16 troops that inspired a troop in Clash of Clans, the others being Spear Goblins, Bomber, Bats, Skeleton Barrel, Minion Horde, Battle Ram, Zappies, Baby Dragon, Giant Skeleton, Ram Rider, Inferno Dragon, Miner, Royal Ghost, Ice Wizard, and Night Witch.
    • Unlike his counterpart in Clash of Clans. he merely slows down enemies upon death, rather than freezing them completely and he will slow enemies only after death instead of slowing them even when he attacks them.
    • He has a slightly different appearance in Clash Royale, gaining coals and is smaller-sized in comparison, like a Golemite.
    • He walks with only his legs instead with also both of his hands like the Golem, which is unlike his Clash of Clans counterpart.
  • The Ice Golem is 1 of 6 cards associated with ice, with the others being Ice Spirit, Giant Snowball, Freeze, Ice Wizard, and Super Ice Golem.
    • In the Finnish language setting of the game, the Ice Golem's name translates to "Freezing Golem".
  • Unlike the Golem, the Ice Golem attacks with both hands, whereas the Golem only punches with one hand. The Elixir Golem attacks with both hands, but the Elixir Golemites use one hand and the Elixir Blobs appear to bite.
  • Unlike the Golem and Elixir Golem, the Ice Golem doesn't spawn his smaller versions upon death.
  • The Ice Golem is the subject of certain cosmetics in the game. More specifically:
    • The Ice Golem is the subject of 3 Emotes.
    • The Ice Golem is the subject of a Tower Skin.
